Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex (in person)

About the role
We are looking for a Yard Foreman / CNC Oak Timber Operator to join our team in this varied, hands-on role.
The position combines CNC production with responsibility for the day-to-day organisation of a busy yard and workshop. It is ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in high standards and wants to develop their technical skills.
Previous CNC experience is preferred, but full training will be given so that you can confidently set up and operate our CNC machinery for cutting and machining oak timber. You will play an important part in making sure timber and finished products are prepared, processed, stored and moved safely and efficiently, and in keeping the yard and workshop organised and running smoothly.
Key responsibilities
CNC and production
- Set up and operate CNC machinery for cutting and machining oak timber, following training.
- Prepare oak timber for CNC production.
- Read and interpret measurements, drawings and job specifications to ensure accurate production.
- Check the dimensions and quality of finished CNC components.
- Identify and report any defects or issues with timber or finished products to the Production Manager or Lead CNC Operator.
- Carry out basic cleaning and routine maintenance of CNC machinery and workshop equipment.
- Report machinery faults and maintenance needs promptly.
Yard operations
- Organise and oversee the day-to-day activities of the yard.
- Safely load, unload and move timber, materials and finished products.
- Use a forklift to move and organise timber and materials around the yard.
- Make sure oak timber, materials and finished products are stored safely and efficiently.
- Help with loading and unloading deliveries.
- Keep the yard and workshop clean, tidy, safe and well organised.
Teamwork and general duties
- Work closely with the wider team so that orders and production are completed accurately and on time.
- Pass on any production, quality, stock or machinery issues to the relevant manager.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures.
- Take a proactive approach to keeping the workplace efficient and well organised.
- Carry out other general yard, workshop and production duties as required.
What we are looking for
- Forklift experience is essential; a forklift qualification or certificate would be an advantage.
- At least one year's experience of carpentry.
- Previous CNC operating experience is preferred, but full training will be given to the right candidate.
- Practical, hands-on experience in a yard, workshop, manufacturing or production environment.
- The ability to read measurements, drawings and job specifications accurately.
- Physically able to handle, load, unload and move oak timber and finished products.
- Organised and reliable, with the confidence to take charge of the day-to-day running of a busy yard and workshop.
- Good attention to detail, with a strong focus on quality and safe working.
- Able to work on your own and as part of a wider team.
- A full driving licence.
Is this you?
We want someone practical, reliable and organised, with a hands-on approach and the confidence to take ownership of their work. If you have CNC experience, that is a strong advantage. If not, we are just as keen to hear from people with a strong practical background who want to learn.
If you enjoy a varied role where no two days are the same, and want to play an important part in both CNC production and the running of the yard, we would like to hear from you.
