For centuries English Oak Beam Layouts have enhanced the ambience and character of British homes, evoking a sense of subtle warmth. At Oakmasters, we strive to recapture this unique traditional style and take pride in ensuring that the Oakwork we create integrates well with its surroundings to form a cherished, lasting feature.
As our Oakwork is tailored specifically to our customers' needs, we have created this price guide in order to explain how the designs of Oak Beam Layouts can be manipulated, altering the resulting character and mood of a room. With so many variables to alter...
- The size and shape of the room;
- Width and depth of the Main Beams;
- Number and spacing of the Main Beams;
- Width and depth of the Joists;
- Number and spacing of the Joists;
- Stop Chamfers, etc.
...the combinations of Beam Layout designs are almost
endless.
It would be impossible to show them all. With this in mind we have created some examples, to illustrate how the same room would appear with several different styles of Beam Layout. Larger Beams give the room a sense of warmth and cosiness, whilst in contrast, smaller Beams give the same room a more modern
feel. It is also important to realise that the spacing (and therefore the number) of joists and main Beams has a notable impact on the ambience of the room. The examples also reflect the range in price depending on the style. The example Layouts and prices would be supplied with joints, and include our Light, Medium or Heavy Hand Wrought and Fumed Finish, ready for installation by your contractor. We are here to help you find the balance that best suits your property, so please contact us and we will be delighted to discuss your project and provide you with a more detailed quotation.

Construction & Installation
|
An example Beam Layout
from above demonstrating the way in which the inner skin of the cavity
wall supports the Main Beams and Joists. These can then either be used in
a load bearing capacity to support the structures above, or if supporting
structures are already in place, simply as an aesthetic
effect. |
|
|
As seen in this view from above, Beam
Layouts are usually constructed to allow the whole width and depth of the
Joists to sit in the Main Beam. Once installed and effectively locked into
position they are allowed the freedom to move in their Mortices as the
whole Layout settles over a number of
years. |
